In Ilia State University, along with physics and astronomy education programs, modern space research has been going on for many years, covering all the main fields: astronomy and astrophysics, cosmology, gravitation and astroparticles, Earth’s atmosphere and near space.
These studies are conducted within the framework of close international cooperation with leading universities and research centres in Europe and the USA. Young scientists and students are actively involved in them.
On the basis of these studies, in 2022, the Space Research Center was founded at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine of the University, which consists of three departments:
● Astronomy and Astrophysics
● Cosmology, Gravitation and Astroparticle Physics
● Atmosphere-ionosphere and Near Space
